At Lake Meadows Senior Assisted Living, residents receive tailored care in order to live as independently as possible. Care services include support with activities of daily living (ADLs), such as dressing, bathing, and hygiene. It was a fun-filled, festive afternoon, and we made sure no stone was left unturned in celebrating our nation’s freedom and the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Following our parade, we pulled out our handheld sparklers and lit them up—a tradition many of our families have enjoyed for generations. ✨🇺🇸
Did you know sparklers have been around for more than 170 years? Their modern form originated in Germany during the 1850s as wunderkerzen, made by dipping wires in a gunpowder and iron mixture. They became widely popular in America during the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago.
The celebration continued with patriotic photos, red, white, and blue bracelets, and plenty of smiles as we honored America’s 250th anniversary in true patriotic fashion. Everyone was decked out in their red, white, and blue attire, decorating walkers, scooters, and wheelchairs while enjoying patriotic music together. The summer heat didn’t stop us from getting outside, breathing in the fresh air, and taking a quick lap around our campus parking lot.

Our volunteer Rylan and Nadine made delicious mini apple pies served with vanilla ice cream to keep our patriotic spirit and festivities going strong.
This was a TikTok-inspired recipe which was a huge success! All you need is puff pastry, a muffin pan, egg wash, apple pie filling, and a sprinkle of sugar.
